Per Wickstrom
Throughout this time in the rehabilitation industry, Per Wickstrom studied and learned what techniques and methods were the most effective, and what wasn’t. He dedicated himself to create his course that was different from any other rehab program in the industry. He trusted he had an excellent idea that could help save thousands of lives and took out a loan from the bank to start his rehab center that followed his curriculum. Now, Mr. Wickstrom runs one of the largest rehabilitation centers in the United States.

Before Mr. Wickstrom became passionate about helping others free themselves from substance abuse, he had his own battle with addiction. At the age of 14, he was searching for something that would help him overcome the grief he was experiencing. He found beer and used it as a way to escape from his problems. Beer soon leads to vodka, which later leads him to marijuana. After being kicked out of his house, he began to use cocaine; drugs became his way to escape from any issues he was having with family, money, relationships, and friends.

His battle with addiction continued for more than 20 years, and none of the four treatment centers helped him overcome his addiction. It wasn’t until he was 38-years-old that he realized the horrible effects drugs had on him and his life. He longer found joy in the things he used to, such as hanging out with friends or football games. It was at this point that he was ready to become sober and lead a substance-free lifestyle.

Per Wickstrom finally found a rehabilitation center that helped him overcome his addiction. Once he graduated from the program, he had to decide whether he wanted to help others achieve the same success or go back to being a successful salesman. He found his higher calling and decided to open up his very own rehabilitation center to help others beat their addiction.

Why Per Wickstrom Opened Serenity Point

Mr. Wickstrom knew from experience how lonely it could feel when you go on the recovery journey alone. He didn’t want others to feel this way and wanted parents of young adults to be assured that their children wouldn’t be in it alone. Because he had his first beer at the age of 14, he wanted to make sure young adults could build a solid foundation for themselves, get ready for adulthood and have better opportunities once they graduate the program.

Serenity Point Recovery Center has cultivated the best and most effective rehabilitation program imaginable. Due to Mr. Wickstrom’s research on addiction and rehabilitation, Serenity can have a program that works for several people. Most people think addicts are all the same. However, Mr. Wickstrom and Serenity Point believe differently. Addiction tends to change a lot of things, but it doesn’t change who the person is underneath it all, and everyone is different, which is why Serenity’s program is open-ended, results-based and evidence-based.

Per Wickstrom CEO and Serenity Point Community Involvement

Per Wickstrom knows the importance of volunteering and getting involved with the local community. For this reason, Serenity Rehab encourages its patients to do as much as they can to get involved and see for themselves how enjoyable life is without drugs and alcohol. All of our events can be viewed on our YouTube channel and some of the most recent events Serenity has been a part of include:

Walk Like MADD

Mr. Wickstrom encourages all of Serenity’s patients to volunteer and give back to the local community. Several patients and staff members from Serenity joined approximately 150 people in the Walk like MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) event on September 12th, 2015. Along with enjoying the sunshine, patients were able to become more aware of what is happening regarding drunk driving and in turn brought awareness to others about the consequences of drunk driving.

Recovery Palooza

Mr. Wickstrom and Serenity Point were honored to sponsor the 2015 Recovery Palooza at Ah-Nab-Awen Park in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Recovery Palooza observes the personal accomplishments that have been made by those in recovery, as well as the progress that has been made by professionals in the field. Several patients and staff members from Serenity  attended the event and were able to be surrounded by others who shared a passion for sobriety. The event was a great way for patients to learn how to enjoy things that are free of drugs or alcohol.

Helping Families Find Holiday Cheer

It’s important to Mr. Wickstrom and everyone at Serenity to bring awareness to substance abuse and what can be done about it. Serenity Point was honored to team up with Country Rock singer and songwriter, Jared Blake, who has been featured on The Voice. He has his personal history of substance abuse, but he was able to turn his life around and now lives a life of sobriety. He uses his music and public presence as a way to promote healthy and positive alternatives to drugs and alcohol. Jared Blake gave a private acoustic performance at Serenity and shared his story with the audience.

Per Wickstrom and Serenity Point Recovery are dedicated to providing a safe place for anyone to take the next step in their life and overcome addiction. By having patients and staff members become more involved in community events, we can spread our message and prove that a life of sobriety is worthwhile.
